Blue-i UK, a start-up, recognised a gap in the market for robust, portable high intensity LED lighting products. Most existing compact fluorescent and halogen products had been notoriously fragile and not fit for their purposes.
Blue-I approached design consultancy Cube3 with their idea. Cube 3 came up with a suitable design and approached Paragon for concept visualisation and validation prototyping.
The processes
Using CAD provided by Cube 3, we produced a 3D printed pattern master. SLA offers a very high level of accuracy, is cost efficient and enables intricate detailing. From this we created silicone rubber tools and then made vacuum castings. Our in-house colour mixing facility meant that we could pigment the materials to the specified RAL reference, and our model makers applied graphics to the finished model.
Results:
Cube3 succeeded in completing the project on time and within budget. The product was nominated for best safety product at the H&S Awards. Blue-i UK were later acquired by safety and lighting specialists, Peli Products on the strength of this initial product. Further remote area lighting solutions are being developed through this successful partnership.
