Project Brief

To provide high quality prototypes that were functional and robust enough to be used in the field for trials by the customer and the military. The masks are designed to protect someone’s life so it was imperative that the prototypes were fully functional so they could be tested accurately.

Background

Design Reality had an ongoing relationship with Scott Safety – and their design supports the development of many of their respirators. They have always strived to provide the highest quality prototypes which is a challenge for any prototyping companies as the masks are incredibly technical.

‘Having high quality prototypes is essential for two reasons. Firstly to ensure comfort as they are in contact with the skin during trials. Even more importantly, the masks are designed to safeguard someone’s life so the prototypes have to prove themselves in high level testing.

“We identified early on in the development of this programme that we needed the quality and attention to detail that Paragon provided to meet the needs of the advance design that we had developed. Paragon provided us with a project team to take care of the 100’s of components that were made and we were able to work very closely with them and were always kept in the loop with regards to delivery and lead-times. Which is why we continue to use Paragon today.”

Results

Paragon was chosen as the best company which was able to provide a one piece moulding -which required some really innovative tooling solutions by Paragon.

The development process has taken a number of years with many iterations in order to ensure that the masks were absolutely fit for purpose before going into production.

After a successful development process these respirators are now being used by the military, with both Design Reality and Paragon now providing parts for other respiratory products to the offices in the US, having proved themselves with the UK lead programme.
